Piperia (Platanthera) unalascensis - up close

            Piperia (Platanthera) unalascensis, the Alaskan Piperia orchid
also known locally as Piperia unalaschcensis

Neat tiny green and green-white "platanthera-type" flowers. Larger plants had 25+ flowers on stems up to 60 cm tall.
These were not as common as most of the other Platantheras we saw, but the places we found them, there were quite a few. 

This is a widespread species, found up and down the western coast of North America. It is found in Alberta, but only along the very western edge of the Province in the mountains.

It was not lost on our group that we were observing P. unalascensis on Unalaska Island!
