Iceland 210622 - Fagradalsfjall - DSC_4472

            An eruption in the Krýsuvík volcanic system on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwest Iceland - about 30 km southwest of Reykjavik - began on 19 March 2021 on the southern slope of the Fagradalsfjall mountain massif. There had not been a volcanic eruption on the Reykjanes peninsula for almost 800 years before; the last eruption occurred in 1240.
On Thursday, 2 September 2021, no more lava flow had been seen from the crater. The volcano was clearly more inactive. However, a lot of gas was still flowing out of the crater.
On Saturday, 11 September 2021, activity could be observed again.
From 18 September 2021, activity came to a standstill again.
On 18 October 2021, the warning level was lowered from "Orange" to "Yellow" after no new lava production since 18 September. The Icelandic Meteorological Office stated that the Krýsuvík volcano system was in a non-eruptive status.

Ein Ausbruch im Krýsuvík-Vulkansystem auf der Halbinsel Reykjanes im Südwesten Islands – rund 30 km südwestlich von Reykjavik – begann am 19. März 2021 am Südabhang des Bergmassives Fagradalsfjall. Auf der Halbinsel Reykjanes hatte es zuvor seit fast 800 Jahren keinen Vulkanausbruch mehr gegeben; der letzte Ausbruch ereignete sich 1240.
Am Donnerstag, dem 2. September 2021 war kein Lavafluss aus dem Krater mehr zu sehen gewesen. Der Vulkan war deutlich inaktiver. Allerdings entströmte dem Krater noch sehr viel Gas.
Am Samstag, dem 11. September 2021 waren erneut Aktivität zu beobachten.
Ab dem 18. September 2021 kam die Aktivität erneut zum Erliegen.
Am 18. Oktober 2021 wurde die Warnstufe von "Orange" auf "Gelb" gesenkt, nachdem seit 18. September keine neue Lavaförderung mehr erfolgte. Das Icelandic Meteorological Office konstatierte, dass das Krýsuvík-Vulkansystem sich in einem nicht-eruptiven Status befände.
