Casey - a photo on Flickriver

Casey

            This view looks west toward Port Townsend (on the Olympic Peninsula) from the grounds of Fort Casey State Park on Whidbey Island. The massive artillery batteries located at Forts Casey, Worden (in Port Townsend), and Flagler were built around 1900 to guard the only entrance for ships to the Puget Sound, but were never fired in anger. On the day I took this picture, the huge smoke plume from the wildfires on the east side of the Cascades was already affecting visibility, but it became much worse on the following days. The man was unaware that I was taking his picture. He just moved into the frame on his electric skateboard, creating a German Ruckenfigur (figure seen from behind) composition (though at the moment the photo was taken he was looking over his left shoulder instead of straight ahead). I used an adapted Nikkor 135mm f3.5 AI-S lens on a Sony A7II.
