2010-08-05dj Tower and rooftops

The Korniakt Tower (part of the Dormition Church, or Wallachian Church) and the surrounding rooftops in historic L'viv, shot from Vysokyi zamok (the hill that once housed L'viv's high castle), in Western Ukraine.

Constructed in the 1570's, before much of the surrounding Dormition church complex, the 66m high Korniakt Tower was originally built as a siege refuge, and only became a belfry following damage in an actual siege in 1795, after which a fourth level with bells and roof were added.

Taken with my Nikon D40, fitted with a Tamron 70-300mm F4/5.6 DI LD (Nikon AFS) lens and processed in GIMP and Photoscape.
