Der 314 m hohe Felskegel ist das markante Wahrzeichen des geschichtsträchtigen Marktes Spitz, dessen älteste Häuser ihn vollständig umrunden. Seinen eigentümlichen Namen erhielt der Berg vor langer Zeit, als er in guten Jahren bis zu eintausend Eimer Wein eingebracht haben soll.
