Abteikirche Maria Laach - a photo on Flickriver

            Die Abteikirche von Maria Laach ist eines der am besten erhaltenen und hervorragenden romanischen Bauwerke Deutschlands.
Der Bau steht so in der Tradition der großen rheinischen Kaiserdome in Speyer, Mainz und Worms.
Beim Eintreten durch das Westportal fällt der Blick auf den östlichen Chorraum, in dem sich noch heute die Mönche zum Gebet und Gottesdienst versammeln. Unterhalb des großen Mosaikbildes des Pantokrator-Christus, ein Werk der Beuroner Kunstschule, in der Ostapsis befindet sich als Hochaltar ein Ziboriumsaltar, ein auf Säulen gestützter Baldachin aus dem Jahre 1256.

The abbey church of Maria Laach is one of the best preserved and outstanding Romanesque buildings in Germany.
The building is thus in the tradition of the great Rhenish imperial cathedrals in Speyer, Mainz and Worms.
When entering through the west portal, the view falls on the eastern choir room, where the monks still gather for prayer and worship today. Below the large mosaic picture of the Pantocrator Christ, a work of the Beuron School of Art, in the eastern apse there is a ciborium altar as the high altar, a canopy supported on columns dating from 1256.
