Chorgestühl Kloster Bronnbach - a photo on Flickriver

            Arnold von Selenhofen nahm auf die Architektur der Kirche, die er als Grablege gewählt hatte, großen Einfluss, was sich besonders bei der Choranlage zeigte: Hier wählte er einen repräsentativen Staffelchor, der jedoch in der Barockzeit zugunsten der neuen Ausstattung wesensverändernd umgebaut wurde.

Das Chorgestühl wurde in den Jahren 1777/78 nach 20-jähriger Fertigungszeit vom Laienbruder Daniel Aschauer fertiggestellt. Der aus Lengfurt am Main stammende Aschauer, der unter Abt Ambrosius ins Kloster eintrat und die Klosterschreinerei leitete, nahm sich für diese dritte Generation von Gestühl im Chorbereich offensichtlich den Westchor des Mainzer Doms zum Vorbild. Das erste Chorgestühl wurde 1631 bei einem Brand zerstört.

Das Chorgestühl ist in zwei gegenüberliegenden Reihen aufgebaut. Die oberen Plätze waren als Gebetsbereich für die Priestermönche gedacht, während die unteren Plätze für Novizen und Kleriker vorgesehen waren. Laienbrüder mussten in den vorgebauten Brüderplätzen an der Messe und am Chorgesang teilnehmen.
