Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood (Explored)

Another landmark of Saint Petersburg. The construction of the church was launched in 1883 in honor of Emperor Alexander II who was assassinated at this place in March 1881. "On Spilled Blood" is a reference to that tragic event. The construction was sponsored by Romanov imperial family and was completed in 1907. Alexander II is known as the Tsar Liberator for his significant reforms, among which was the abolition of serfdom.
