222102 Harringworth Viaduct - a photo on Flickriver

            The 1P69 Derby - St Pancras service crosses the Welland valley.

Completed in 1879 by Midland Railway Engineer John Underwood Harringworth or Welland Viaduct as it has also been known is Britain's longest at 1275yds constructed to the same design. It was built of blue brick although now extensively patched with red brick and has 82 semi circular arches of a 40ft span and crosses the valley of the River Welland rising no more than 60ft above the valley floor at its highest point.

The southern end is in the county of Northants, the photo was taken from England's smallest county - Rutland. The border follows the River Welland which is under the train that we see.
