House above Canley Ford (1922 remodeled Michael Partridge Partners 2001)

            Built in 1922 for Alderman Harris it was eventually sold in 1949 and became a plant nursery which sold produce, becoming a fashionable and much loved Milk Bar in 1959. Surviving for the next 30 years on temporary planning permission the milk bar finally closed in 1990, ten years later it was remodeled as a private house. Permission was refused to turn it into a garden centre owing to traffic concerns about the narrow and steep lane which  drops nearly 40ft to the Ford below. The lane was on the main route to Canley village till the road was cut by the building of the Coventry bypass in 1935. It now nestles in a secluded back way surrounded by a golf course and woodland.
