Stranger 114 - Marianne (Explored) - a photo on Flickriver

Today I went out to get a filter replaced as my previous one had somehow smashed. Since I was out I obviously decided to be on the look out for potential street portraits.

my aim was to not worry to much about backgrounds and think about the person and light. While sitting at a poetry coffee shop, I saw Marianne outside and noticed that there was some nice light hitting her face. The background wasn't all that, but as my aim was to not worry about that I approached her.

Marianne was about to go into work and initially started to say that she wasn't dressed that well (she was dressed perfectly fine). But when I said it would be a headshot, she was happy to give me a few minutes. She's from Estonia and studying Event Management over here with 2 years to go. She has been in the UK for a year and loves it.

I didn't use a reflector on this one as I didn't feel it was needed. The light was very nice and the walls on the right gave some nice shadow to her cheeks.

I am reasonably satisfied with the portrait but felt that it had more potential. As she was in a rush I didn't want to take too much of her.

On this portrait I experimented with a much tighter crop than usual and some colour grading.
