Turner & Newall Ltd. - "Lady Asbestos"

            Compelling and ornate illustration attributed to former British asbestos mega-company, Turner & Newall Limited (T&N).  Caption below image indicates:

  " 'Lady Asbestos' -- this symbol of protection was first used in 1918 in publicity material produced by Turner Brothers Asbestos.  Designed by Bernard Partridge, it shows in allegorical terms asbestos defending civilisation from the elements."

This intricate and iconic drawing seems to portray a strong sense of reverence for the use of asbestos in service to mankind's industrial technologies; intriguing imagery of asbestos as a metaphorical Greek goddess using a protective shield in defense of human architectural and engineering constructs against certain adverse natural forces.
