È considerato uno dei più grandi scultori contemporanei italiani, molto noto ed apprezzato anche all'estero. Fratello del noto scultore Giò Pomodoro.
Le sue opere adornano città importanti  come Pesaro, Roma, Milano, Tivoli,Torino, Belluno, Terni, Copenaghen, Brisbane, Dublino (di fronte al famosoTrinity College), Los Angeles, oltre a figurare al Mills College in California, nel Cortile della Pigna dei Musei Vaticani, nei maggiori musei mondiali nonché al Cremlino e all'ONU.

"The concerns of my work as an artist have always centered on the relationship between the individual sculpture and the space in which it is sited.
A sculpture, indeed, is the realization of a space of its own within the greater space in which it lives and moves. When a work transforms the place in which it is located, it takes on the valence of a true and proper witness of the times that spawned it, and thus places a mark on its context, enriching it with additional layers of memory.
Today I think of my sculptures as crystals, or nuclei, or as eyes, or signal fires; and I see them as relating to borders and voyages, to the worlds of complexity and imagination".

" Esigenza prioritaria nel mio lavoro è sempre stata la relazione dell’opera con lo spazio in cui viene collocata.
La scultura, infatti, è la realizzazione di un “proprio” spazio dentro lo spazio maggiore dove si vive o ci si muove. L’opera, quando trasforma il luogo in cui è posta, ha veramente una valenza testimoniale del proprio tempo, riesce ad improntare di sé un contesto, per arricchirlo di ulteriori stratificazioni di memoria.
Oggi penso che le mie sculture siano cristalli, o nuclei, oppure occhi o fuochi, per la frontiera e per il viaggio, per la complessità, per l’immaginario".
