Wells Next The Sea horse sculpture returns

            The steel horse statue was returned to Wells Next The Sea in Norfolk this evening. 'Lifeboat Horse' was originally displayed for just a season last year but it proved so popular that it was bought by public subscription with everyone from businesses to local children chipping in.

The horse was moved into position on the rising tide by the Port of Wells' working boat which has a crane jib upon it. A modest crowd gathered to watch the sculpture's replacement and they gave the crew of the working boat a round of applause when it returned.

The statue is by Rachael Long and was purchased for £15,000. It commemorates the many horses which were used to launch the former Wells lifeboat and stands opposite the former lifeboat house which is now the harbour master's office.
