Trawlers on the quayside, Looe, Cornwall

            Although the fish market at Looe - out of shot to the left - no longer holds daily auctions it is where the small fleet of day boats mainly unload their catch. According to local media reports  the fish will now be sorted and graded at Looe and taken to Plymouth for the auction. 

As well as being a fishing town Looe is a pretty little holiday resort on the south-east coast of Cornwall that back in the 19th century was an important port, handling tin and copper ore from the mines on Bodmin Moor. The railway that initially hauled the wagons here was converted to carry passengers when the mining boom ended, and the seaside resort was born.
