A mouthful of little ones - a photo on Flickriver

            The yellowhead jawfish (Opistognathus aurifrons) is a mouthbrooder, with the male carrying the eggs in his mouth until they hatch. During that time the male does not eat. (How could it?) 

Jawfish make burrows in the sandy bottom which they use to hide. They pop out of their burrow to snatch some food drifting by in the current. Because the male doesn't eat when he is brooding eggs he will tend to stay tucked away in his burrow most of the time. This one did fancy to emerge occasionally, even sometimes coming fully out, which enabled the shot.
