Memories of Ketchikan - a photo on Flickriver

Watercolour on 140 lb. Arches cold press paper.
This was painted yesterday during a workshop with Merv Richardson. We divided the paper into various planes using intersecting lines. Put our drawing on top, painted the planes using 3 primary colours, and then when dry completed the painting using both positive and negative painting techniques. A really fun exercise, and one I will try again, now that I know the kinds of results that are possible. It also gave me another chance to paint a scene from our Alaska cruise of two years ago.
Merv is a wonderful instructor and a very gentle and encouraging person. If you ever have the opportunity to take one of his workshops, please do. You won't be sorry.
