Capilano Reservoir, North Vancouver, British Columbia

            This is the water reservoir created by the Cleveland (Capilano) Dam, in North Vancouver. It is one of several mountain reservoirs that supply the Metro Vancouver region with drinking water. The little green shack is floating on water about 90 metres deep (slightly under 300 feet). It is part of the infrastructure supporting the water system.

The reservoir is created by the damming of the Capilano River which flows south out of the North Shore mountains to exit into the ocean at the Lions' Gate / First Narrows; mouth of Vancouver Harbour. The river mouth is in the shadow of the Lions Gate Bridge (yes like the movie distributor). 

I have a photo posted just prior to this one, of a view from the top of the Cleveland Dam. The dam was built in 1954 to create the Capilano Reservoir. It is 91m (300 feet) high. It is named after engineer Ernest Albert Cleveland, who served as the first chief commissioner of the Greater Vancouver Water District from 1926 until his death in 1952.
