ARR 4016 Birchwood 16 Jun 12 - a photo on Flickriver

            The final unit of the Alaska Railroad's first order of SD70MACs leads a gravel train south through Birchwood, AK.

This is our fifth entry in my Alaska Revisited series.  If you're not familiar with what that is, I'm going back through my shots from my time in The Last Frontier and seeing what I have to work with.  Some of these photos will be alternate shots of images already uploaded (i.e. a mash vs. a wider angle shot), some will be from different angles, and some will be completely new.  I'm not sure what I have in total, but for whatever reason, they didn't get consideration the first time through.

This was a lucky catch.  I had gotten word that a train was running behind a southbound passenger train, but I was still new and wasn't following what was going on on the scanner.  I pulled up to the crossing in Birchwood just to see what was there as I had never been there before, and this guy popped around the bend!  I can't think of many situations in Alaska where I just pulled up and a train showed up!
