Hummer in Love

            This was taken in a series of photos of this hummingbird in a tree off my patio.   I took about ten shots of him as he turned from side to side, almost as if he wanted me to get his best side.  When I uploaded my photos, I saw this one where he fluffed up his throat.  I never noticed it when I was photographing him so it was quite a surprise.   I was told it was a mating signal ... perhaps he liked that I've been feeding him and his entire family for years!

"Hummingbird males like to offer the females a little showmanship when they are ready for mating. 
Male hummingbirds also do a mating dance in front of the female, exposing all parts of his body and flying in a way that he is able to prove his strength and control. He can also expose his chest and throat by puffing up and then move his head from side to side. This method shows how colorful he is in order to catch the attention of the female."
