            L'église Saint-Pierre à Chalon-sur-Saône, construite de 1698 à 1713 en forme de croix grecque, est une ancienne chapelle bénédictine. L'extérieur est de style italien, l'intérieur relève du baroque, style en vogue à l'époque de la Régence. Consacrée en 1713, l'édifice devient église paroissiale en 1802. Elle est agrandie en 1898 et sa façade est refaite (1900).
Cette église est originale par son importante statuaire (Docteurs de l'Église, fondateurs d'ordre religieux, Vierge de l'Apocalypse, etc.) Certaines statues datent du XVIIe siècle. L'architecture baroque reste assez dépouillée (pilastres, chapiteaux à base de feuillages, corniche très saillante, clé de voûte du chœur à têtes d'angelots). On notera la présence d'une belle coupole à la croisée du transept.

The Saint-Pierre church in Chalon-sur-Saône, built from 1698 to 1713 in the shape of a Greek cross, is a former Benedictine chapel. The exterior is in the Italian style, the interior is Baroque, a style in vogue at the time of the Regency. Consecrated in 1713, the building became a parish church in 1802. It was enlarged in 1898 and its façade was redone (1900). This church is original because of its important statuary (Doctors of the Church, founders of religious orders, Virgin of the Apocalypse, etc.). Some statues date from the 17th century. The Baroque architecture remains quite stripped down (pilasters, capitals based on foliage, very prominent cornice, keystone of the choir with cherub heads). Note the presence of a beautiful dome at the crossing of the transept.
