Also, of interest, the one pound coin was introduced on this day, 21st April, 1983 replacing the one pound note which stopped being legal tender in 1988. I kind of miss the £1 note. It was actually quite large in size compared to modern day smaller denomination notes - only a smidge under the size of a current £20 note!
The pic also reminds me that I've not actually used physical coins of the realm for weeks! Not that I can use this one of course, it's the old version of the £1 coin which stopped being legal tender in 2017. Found it in a drawer and it's clearly had a LOT of use. Quite peeved it's a 1984 minted one and not a 1983 one but you can't have everything.
