Severance Wreck || Lady Elliot Island {Explore 164, 2021/04/24}

            The ghostly Severance wreck appears 21m down during a snorkel safari in the afternoon at LEI.. The sun rays provide leading lines :-)

Quite a few ships have come to grief on the fringing reef around Lady Elliot Island, but only the Severance can be dived. Only a few minutes offshore, the Severence is a two masted sailing boat which sunk off the island in 1998. Severence is still very undamaged, remnants of the sails can even be seen. Small patches of coral have appeared and provide food for a variety of reef fish. Huge schools of pellagics hang in the area and you are likely to come into contact with moray eels and other exciting marine life.
