Pond Hockey Dreams

            Pond Hockey is about as Canadian as it gets. This is a pretty sophisticated operation, away from power grids and accessible roads, within walking distance from my home - though it's best to get there by a network of forest trails. 

There's a gas-powered generator onsite for pumping water to the ice surface, to flood it as they say, and to power some lights for those night games.

It's also idyllic because of the location, including the fact that it's said to have been set up by a former NHL player. 

Moments after I snapped this photo, I put the camera down and picked up a shovel to clear the snow that had fallen earlier in the day. I am Canadian after all.
