Το νέο φρούριο της Κέρκυρας δεσπόζει πάνω απο το παλιό λιμάνι και είναι μια επιβλητική, γραμμική και ογκώδης κατασκευή.Διαθέτει ένα δίκτυο εσωτερικών τούνελ τα οποία σήμερα δεν χρησιμοποιούνται ενώ χρησίμευαν για να το συνδέσουν με το παλαιό φρούριο και άλλα μέρη της πόλης.
The new fortress of Corfu dominates over the old port and is an imposing, linear and massive construction. It has a network of internal tunnels which today are not used while they served to connect it to the old fortress and other parts of the city.
Κτίστηκε μεταξύ 1576 και 1645 υπό την επίβλεψη του μηχανικού Φ. Βιτέλλι .
Αργότερα δέχθηκε επισκευές και συμπληρώσεις .Σήμερα φιλοξενεί εκθέσεις ζωγραφικής, φωτογραφίας, γλυπτικής εκτός απο συναυλίες και άλλες καλλιτεχνικές δραστηριότητες.
It was built between 1576 and 1645 under the supervision of the engineer F. Vitelli.
Later it received repairs and additions. Today it hosts exhibitions of painting, photography, sculpture in addition to concerts and other artistic activities.
Αξίζει οπωσδήποτε μια επίσκεψη ακόμη και μόνο για την θέα την οποία προσφέρει προς την στη πόλη και την γειτονική ακτή.
It is definitely worth a visit if only for the view it offers towards the city and the neighboring coast.
