Shrewsbury Steam Rally 2022 – One for Telegraph Pole Enthusiasts

There were a few very interesting craft and exhibition displays including wood carving, collections of paraffin containers and model buildings made from matchsticks.

This one featured telegraph insulators from around the world and may be of interest to telegraph pole fans, particularly those who belong to Flickr Groups who share their passion with like-minded enthusiasts. One word of warning however, the book at bottom left mentions the word 'Railway' so it may contain information about railway signals, something which is frowned upon by at least one telegraph pole related group who only encourage the sharing of pictures and information relating to proper telegraph poles.

I couldn't give two hoots about telegraph poles myself but I did once cover the work of our local Telegraph Pole Alignment Officer who performs a critically important role in our local community. Please see...

Held over the August bank holiday Sunday and Monday at Onslow Park just outside Shrewsbury in Shropshire. This was the best traction engine rally I'd ever been to with its fantastic displays of steam powered vehicles, including rollers, traction engines and lorries. There were classic cars and motorcycles, art and crafts, horses, stalls and funfair rides as well as ploughing displays and tractor pulling.

I was talking to the organizer of recent rallies at Llangollen Railway station who told me the rally had roots going back to the mid 1950's at Church Stretton, Bishops Castle and Lydbury North. The event is organised by The County of Salop Steam Engine Society.
