Chirbury Church of St Michael the Archangel – Interior Looking East

No, this is not distortion from using an extreme wide angle lens. I held the camera high up and checked that the 'lean' of the arcade columns on the screen matched what I was seeing. And they really are leaning out, as noted by a lot of people who were visiting that day.

As mentioned in a preceding picture, the nave is thought to be the original nave prior to the arrival of the monks. The high north and south walls of the nave feature 5-bay arcades with circular piers and capitals with pointed arches and single chamfering and filleted roll-moulding.

The font at bottom left of picture is medieval but of indeterminate date and was probably originally a stoup. It has an octagonal stepped pedestal with 4 semi-circular lobes and angle brackets to a circular basin.
