Although the process of tie-dying has been around for thousands of years, in the U.S., it became popular in the late 1960's-1970's as a form of protest against War and as a sign for Peace. Worn by Hippies, Protesters, Artists, Musicians, and a certain college student, tie-dyed clothing was brightly colored, psychodelic, trippy, and a statement of individuality, free-spiritness, and creativity.
