            Letter on reverse penned on the 12.8.1916 and sent to his brother and sister-in-law in Reutlingen. Einheitsstempel: K'dant Div. St. Quart. Postage cancelled on 14.8.1916 (K.B. 1. Landwehr-Division).

According to his service records, Gustav Ottmann was 25 years old when this photo was taken and was stationed in north-eastern France with the 1. Bayerische Landwehr-Division.

On the 25.11.1918 he was hospitalised in Ettlingen with pneumonia but appears to have survived the war.
