Cement Boat Cottage, DeTour MI - a photo on Flickriver

            This bow, wheelhouse and forward cabins were the original 350-ft. steamer John W. Boardman, the first true Great Lakes boat designed for hauling cement, built in 1923 for the Huron Transportation Co. In 1965 National Gypsum took over the operations of Huron Transportation and renamed to boat Lewis G. Harriman. The Harriman spent its last years in the 1990's as a cement storage barge and in the fall of 2003 sold for scrap and towed to Sault Ste. Marie. The bow, wheelhouse and forward cabins were purchased by Marc & Jill Vander Meulen and in November of 2005 were towed by barge from the Soo down the Lower St. Marys River to it's current location just northwest of DeTour, Upper Michigan.
