Or not.  Perception is reality, but not necessarily accurate!

I don't auto-rotate my images in-camera, and while it is very clear that these are grooves when viewed in portrait mode (as shot) I was intrigued that the default landscape format made the grooves look like ridges, probably due to the orientation of the shadows?  You may see them correctly at first glance, but for me, the effect still kicks in now and then when I re-view the picture.
