Fokker F.VII Trimotor - a photo on Flickriver

The Fokker F.VII was an early airliner which saw extensive use during the twenties and thirties being widely known as the Fokker Trimotor. It had a structure made of a fabric-covered steel-tube fuselage and a plywood-skinned wooden wing which for the time (combined with the monoplane configuration) was considered quite advanced.

It had fixed landing gear, a range of 1200km and could carry (depending on the versions) between 8 to 10 passengers.
In 1936, newer designs like the Junkers Ju-52/3M and the Douglas DC-3 started to appear and made this airplane obsolete, being relegated to secondary roles.

Because of this, some examples of this aircraft (and the similar Fokker F.XII) were used by both sides during the Spanish Civil War.
