Powells 7

            Powells have greatly expanded their portfolio of SYPTE contracts over the past year or so. In addition to the A1 profiled yesterday, the HCT-owned outfit took over services 5, 10/10A, 61/2, 35A, and 201 last September, followed by the 6 and 49 in April. 

One of nine ex Malta Public Transport SR Solos in the Powells fleet is KX14FHU (7), seen here passing St Augustine's on Brocco Bank with the 15:50 6 from Sheffield City Centre to Millhouses Tesco. The 6 was previously operated by TM Travel who had taken the service over from First in October 2012 as an SYPTE-funded Millhouses to City to Darnall route. This remained the case until September when First won the route on contract, with TM registering the Millhouses to City section on a commercial basis with a frequency increase from half hourly to every 20 minutes. The First City to Darnall service retained the number 6 until November, when it was sensibly renumbered 9. TM then withdrew their 6 in April, with SYPTE funding a Powells-operated replacement. Introduced at the height of lockdown, this service initially followed an hourly frequency, however an increased level of service with a bus every 40 minutes was implemented on 15 June. Endcliffe Vale has been added to the route, with fewer 10/10A journeys serving the area as a result.
