Another Kind of Bee Eater, Part III 4388

            I didn't believe it when I saw one, then two Canada Geese sitting in a huge oak tree at HF Reserve picking off honey bees at they emerged from the hive in the large branch (which extends over the pond). After I was done with these four shots, I got one of three more geese waiting at the base for their turn. When it was their turn, two flew up to the notch in the tree and out onto the limb. It's estimated that that hive was 30 years old and that it may have had 50,000 or more bees. 

The eye beak coordination of the geese was fascinating!

I have returned at least once every two weeks for the past 8 or 9 years, and I have not see hide nor fuzz of the bees and have never seen another goose up in the oak.
