Echinopsis densispina - 'Afterglow' 1377

            I thought I'd go into this weekend with a BANG, and no better way than to present the latest blossoms (6-8 inches) of Echinopsis densispina which Ruth Bancroft named "Afterglow." This is a native of Argentina. 

When I first came to the garden in April, this multi"stemmed" cactus had one orange blossom. Two days later, there were three flowers, but within the week, all had died and fallen off. Two weeks ago, it started over again, and this shows that it certainly has gotten ... a second wind. I'm hoping that it flowers all summer long. I'll even visit in August and September (but late in the afternoon since they are in the shade at 10 AM and the temperatures can reach 100° by 3 PM).
