Lines and branches

Recently a friend posted about his love of trees (www.thegoldensieve.com/the-golden-sieve/they-breath-life-...), and I realized I had an unconscious symmetry in thought. I think for the most part when it comes to composition, I just try to find what's pleasing to my eye. I don't really pay attention to the rule of thirds or anything else that people write on and on about on their own blogs. For me, it's quite simple, does this grab my eye, and does it reflect a mood or emotion I'm trying to convey. I realized going through the series of images that I collected from this morning through the University of Chicago, I tended to frame most shots in the context of the trees. The previous image I posted is a prime example, and I enjoyed this one for the way this tree moves through the frame, ultimately (and hopefully) drawing the eye towards the glow of Bond Chapel. Walking along the campus it is easy to loose oneself among the beautiful architecture, but it's the combination with the trees and their own character they bring out that makes me want to get back more and more photographically.
