Eastbourne tram No. 12 - a photo on Flickriver

            An old photograph of Eastbourne narrow gauge Tramway tram No. 12 pictured here by the depot and showing a 'Depot' destination blind.

The photograph is stamped on the reverse with 10 Sep 1966 and as having been taken by J. H. Price.

Eastbourne Tramway was the brainchild of Claude Lane who built his own 1/2 size trams for the 2ft narrow gauge system running for just 0.9 miles and operated by his company 'Modern Electric Tramways Ltd.'. It opened in Jul 1954 and closed Sep 1969, when due to the local council being against any extension of the line or extending his yearly agreement with them, he moved the whole operation to Seaton in Devon creating the 2' 9" narrow gauge Seaton Tramway.

Car No. 12 ran as an enclosed single deck saloon car on equal wheel bogies at Eastbourne but since moving to Seaton has been rebuilt as an open top double decker (in 1980) and had its cab built out to make it look 'more Feltham like' (in 1999).
