An Osprey Can Fish! - a photo on Flickriver

            This Osprey tolerated Magdalena and I at close proximity. We watched him devour a Garfish starting at the head and systematically working toward the tail. After finishing this appetizer and resting for a few minutes he flew off into the distance ( about 1 km or 1/2 mile) where we watched him circle in search of his main course. After a few aborted dives, he finally went down and was successful on his first try. He was much too far to photograph but we tracked him as he approached closer and closer.  He flew by and then returned to settle down on a perch very close to us, this time with a Mullet.  Osprey can fish!

In early January 2012 I posted an Osprey with captured prey. This is six weeks later at the same location and could very well be the same bird.
