生態與分佈 Ecology ：
你吃過雞，但你了解雞嗎？現代家雞就是源於古代被馴化的原雞。一般認為源自於東南亞或印度的紅色叢林雞 Red Jungle fowl (Gallus gallus)，是現今大規模飼養的家雞的祖先。分布於中南半島、印度、南至印尼以及中國的雲南、廣西、海南等地，主要生活於熱帶林區、次生林、闊葉混合林、稀疏林以及灌木林。家雞的馴養歷史以往認為始自四千多年前之印度西部，但卻在黃河流域發現八千多年前雞骨化石。由於雞並不遷徙，除非由人類飼養，否則無法活過黃河流域的冬天。因此這八千年前的骨頭應屬於最早的家雞，由此推斷人類馴養雞隻可能已有八千年的歷史。
