N814FT ex-Seaboard World Boeing 747-245F (SCD) in full Flying Tigers livery at London Heathrow

From a collection of some 500 Boeing slides that I've had scanned from my archives. Hope they will provide some enjoyment and nostalgia from a bygone age.
High up on my list of favourite 747 / livery / aviation photos :)

In the late 1970s at Heathrow there were regular Seaboard World cargo flights, which originally brought in short DC-8 N804SW but also Boeing 747s N701SW & N702SW. At the time, for some reason, Seaboard starting using Northwest Orient Cargo 747s on the flights as well, so they probably needed more capacity. In September 1979, the airline received two more brand new 747s N703SW and N704SW [seen here]. Just a year later, the airline was merged into Flying Tigers and this stylish livery disappeared.

Both the Seaboard World and the Northwest Orient cargo 747s had a nose-up loading facility, which was much faster than the traditional Side Cargo Door (SCD) - which the aircraft also had.

This shot shows N814FT (ex N704SW) just a year after the period of transition when Seaboard World was taken over by Flying Tigers - and the aircraft is now carrying full Flying Tigers livery.

N814FT c/n 21841 Boeing 747-245F (SCD) was delivered new to Seaboard World in Sep 1979 - the fourth aircraft in the fleet and one of four purpose built freighters. As mentioned above, a year later the airline was swallowed up by the mighty Flying Tigers, and the aircraft wore a transitional hybrid livery for a while. The aircraft flew as N814FT for a further nine years before Flying Tigers itself was merged into federal Express (FedEx) and it was re-registered as N638FE. In 1996 the aircraft was sold to Atlas Air (UK), and four years later went to Polar Air Cargo as N925FT. In 2002 the aircraft was stored for a time and then went to MK Airlines as 9G-MKP. In 2007 the aircraft was transferred to the British register as G-MKFA but two years later the airline folded. Fate unknown - presumed broken up.
