Modern Day EMD - a photo on Flickriver

Modern Day EMD

            Introduced during 2009, Downer EDI constructed 9 of their GT46ACe Model for themselves under their "Locomotive Demand Power" leasing side of the company. (Hence being called the 'LDP' Class). Interestingly enough, these were built with an EMD engine (EMD 16-7103C-EC) forcing a total 3208kW or 4300HP. 

The first 3 were released in a White and Blue livery with 'Downer EDI Rail' logo spread across the front, but soon after were replaced with a 'QR National' logo. The remaining 6 were painted into QR Nationals (now Aurizon) Maroon/Yellow/Black 'Eagle' livery.

LDP001 through to LDP009 were quickly hired after production by QR National (or now Aurizon) on a $45 million dollar lease for 5 years for use on their intermodal workings. In the beginning they traveled on all their intermodal services but since the introduction of QR Nationals (Aurizon) GE 6000 and 6020 classed locomotives they rarely travel West, predominantly seen on Northern services (Melbourne-Sydney-Brisbane).

Here LDP008 leads LDP009 and LDP002 past Middle Footscray on a lengthy Saturday, Melbourne to Brisbane service running as 7MB7. On this day a fair amount of SCT Refrigerated Wagons are seen here behind the trio hauling products Heinz.
