Tree Swallow - Battle - a photo on Flickriver

            While photographing a Tree Swallow (Tachycineta bicolour) resting on a fence post, another bird, likely a male flew into the area and it was immediately engaged by the resting bird.  They made contact with each other in mid air and tumbled to the ground.  They were engaged in quite the struggle for a couple of minutes with the loser quickly departing the area.  The victor, likely the resident male, returned to its fence post for a rest.  

It was quite the encounter and I was fortunate to capture a few close-ups of the battle on the ground. A few feathers were floating in the air after the struggle.
