Weathered - A weathered tree gracefully embraces the beautiful and weathered ruins of Kilchurn Castle on a moody, but still, dawn on the shoreline of Loch Awe.

Captured on a very recent visit towards the end of October, conditions were a little different to the usual spectacular dawn light that I’d previously grown so accustomed to. The moody dawn did not disappoint and the delicate subtle light more than made up for the lack of intense colours.

The still loch presented a real sense of serene calm with the atmospheric conditions, brooding Scottish weather with frequent downpours never far away. This called for a different composition to the more classic image of Kilchurn, finding this old weather beaten tree just crying out to be included was so opportune and really fortunate. Against the odds, the surprisingly calm conditions that I crave so much were the icing on the cake, putting me in my element and presenting the perfect scene to me.

A very wet week spent on the west coast of Scotland, but so great to be away at long last, much needed tonic for mind and soul; with autumn colours in abundance and glimpsing conditions like this, however brief, was most welcome therapy indeed.
