'The End of Days'; The Demise of Sheffield Power Signalbox, 1/5/2016 - 5944

            * Part Two - The Station, 30th April
Continuing the three-part story of last weekends events which saw the closure of the Sheffield Power Signalbox which resulted in no trains through the station on Sunday, 1st may with additionally no trains running in the area which were normally under control of the PSB. |Following that, on the Monday after York took control of some of the Sheffield PSB responsibility, namely that at the station and immediate surrounds, trains did run but not north-eastwards towards Rotherham and Masbrough. This resulted in the services which did run, using the Blackburn Valley line which is controlled from the Barnsley PSB; the southern end upto just north of Meadowhall interchange being where the division, between the boxes, takes place. So this set of 6 pictures shows the station on the Sunday morning with not very much happening at all, of course, and then on the Monday, further north, once the trains had started running, some of the passenger diversions which took place until, on Monday evening, York R.O.C. took over control of the local area north-east of Sheffield and the track diagram became fully 'live' once more for services from Tuesday morning. This 1st shot in the 4 at the station shows one of the station personnel crossing the footway at the south end of the station with the Shrewsbury Road tunnels in the background. In the 'Fish Dock', as the area on the east side of the station used to be called, now the 'Washer', 'Fuel Point' & 'carriage sidings', five Northern Rail DMUs are parked up awaiting their next service out on the Monday.. these are 142016, 158902 142016 158910 142068 158903, with 142038 in the fuelling point building. The southern corner of the Sheffield PSB building is poking in to the picture at the right-hand edge and was built on the ground once occupied by a builders merchant. The large Sheffield South No.1 mechanical signal box occupied the space which the 'orange-jacket' is walking towards where small grey track-side cabinets are now located though the small blue-brick building is still in-situ, behind Sheffield PSB's S0105 colour light signal at the very end of platform 5, and the small building was a few yards from the bottom of the signalbox steps; the old box would therefore have been facing the PSB directly across the lines which run into platforms 1 and 2.
