Of All Ages

On day 2 of our winter sequoia adventure, it was time to dig out of the major snow dump that occurred overnight. Over a foot of fresh snow had fallen with the storm tapering off early in the morning. After weighing our options, Jeff and I decided to spend our day in the Giant Forest grove of sequoias. In particular we hoped for a break in the storm and some sunlight to help enliven the forest scenes.

Up til now we were photographing under cloudy skies. Although the cloudy skies made the lighting balanced, we wanted some sunlight to help add light dynamics to some scene. In the late afternoon, our wish came true as the storm broke for over an hour with sunlight coming in and out of the clouds. My eyes were drawn to this scene as the sunlight lit parts of the sequoia trunks and bringing out their vibrant oranges and reds against the white backdrop. With our goals accomplished we headed home shortly after, just as the next round of storm began closing in.
