CATEDRAL DE VALENCIA - a photo on Flickriver

            Retablo de alabastro  de la Capilla del Santo Cáliz.

Se trata de la antigua puerta del coro (siglo XV), rematada por las imágenes de la Virgen, con san Luís y santa Elena.

En este marco, destacan los doce relieves del florentino Giuliano di Nofri, que son una de las primeras obras del renacimiento en España. Las escenas inferiores corresponden al Antiguo Testamento y son profecía de las superiores, del Nuevo Testamento.

En el centro, el santo cáliz de la catedral de Valencia, que según algunas tradiciones es el vaso identificado​ con el Santo Grial, y que consta de dos piezas:

      1.- Una copa superior tallada a partir de una piedra de calcedonia, que el arqueólogo Antonio Beltrán fechó en torno al siglo I.

      2.- Un pie con asas lujosamente adornado que habría sido añadido posteriormente. 

En los viajes realizados a Valencia por los Papas Juan Pablo II y Benedicto XVI ambos utilizaron este cáliz al celebrar sus misas multitudinarias.

It is the old choir door (15th century), topped by images of the Virgin, with Saint Louis and Saint Elena.

Within this framework, the twelve reliefs by the Florentine Giuliano di Nofri stand out, which are one of the first works of the Renaissance in Spain. The lower scenes correspond to the Old Testament and are a prophecy of the upper ones, from the New Testament.

In the center, the holy chalice of the Valencia Cathedral, which according to some traditions is the glass identified with the Holy Grail, and which consists of two pieces:

       1.- An upper cup carved from a chalcedony stone, which the archaeologist Antonio Beltrán dated around the 1st century.

       2.- A luxuriously decorated foot with handles that would have been added later.

On the trips made to Valencia by Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI, both used this chalice when celebrating their mass masses.
