Tradition or Modernity - a photo on Flickriver

Yangtze River Cableway and Dongshuimen Bridge, Chongqing, China

This was taken from Dongshuimen Bridge with Yangtze River Cableway at left side.

Yangtze River Cableway is a must-visit attraction for tourists in Chongqing. The cableway across the Yangtze River was put into operation in 1987 to increase the efficiency of transport between the Yuzhong and Nan'an districts across the Yangtze River without building expensive new bridges. It is a span of 1,166 meters (3800 feet), and mainly used by the local population for inexpensive travel across the Yangtze River at the begining. But now many modern bridges had been build up along the river, and now now many tourists found this old-style transportation very enjoyable while crossing the Changjiang River.

Let us hope that the old-style cableway will continue to operate.
