Le Pulteney Bridge de Bath, Angleterre!

            Le Pulteney Bridge, Bath, comté du Somerset, région du Wessex, en Angleterre. 

Construit sur la rivière Avon, entre 1769 et 1774, et inspiré du ponte Vecchio de Florence, ce pont est bordé de boutiques de chaque côté de sa chaussée. 

Bath doit sa prospérité à une source d’eau chaude qui aurait guérit un roi celte, Bladud, de la lèpre 860 av. J.-C. En 50 ap. J.-C., les Romains fondèrent la ville pour en faire un lieu thermal qui s'appelait en latin Aquae Sulis ("les eaux de Sulis"). Ils construisirent des bains et un temple dans les collines aux alentours de la ville, dans la vallée de l'Avon autour de sources chaudes. Edgar d'Angleterre fut proclamé roi à l'abbaye de Bath en 973. Bath a été un centre important de l'industrie lainière au Moyen Âge. 

Au 18e siècle, sous les règnes des rois George I, II et III, la ville devient populaire en tant que station thermale qui conduit à une importante expansion qui en fit une ville élégante, célébrée dans l’art et la littérature, avec ses bâtiments néoclassiques inspirés par Palladio qui ont harmonieusement entouré le complexe thermal romain, laissant un important héritage architectural fabriqué avec la pierre de la région. Pour cette raison, la ville de Bath est inscrite au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO depuis 1987 (WHL-428).
