Hetch Hetchy Reservoir - a photo on Flickriver

            The road to Hetch Hetchy Reservoir is just a ~15 mile drive from Highway 120, one of the main entry points into Yosemite National Park, though very few people take this side trip. We saw only a few cars on the 40 minute trip. The 2013 fires ravaged this area so a large portion of the trip is through burned out forests, and dead wood is still being cut down and hauled out. 

John Muir fought a bitterly lost battle to keep the dam from being built and this valley filled to create a reservoir. Apparently, it was one of the most bitter disappointments of his life.  It's still a beautiful place, and there are many trails in the area. If you want to experience the untrammeled, peaceful mountains as Muir did, this is the place to go for hikes and camping !
