To the Top - a photo on Flickriver

To the Top

            During my walk at the Bayfront Park in Menlo Park, on the edge of San Francisco Bay (formerly a garbage dump/landfill, converted to a park about 25 years ago), I spent some time photographing the winding wooden fence that follows the path. The tiny figures at the top of the hill lend some perspective and make the image more appealing than just the fence alone. I was carrying the telephoto lens and experimenting with shooting in aperture priority mode, thus the limited focal point. 

Most of the garbage dumps that once lined the Bay have been closed. Our garbage is now hauled far away and dumped in a landfill near the ocean in Half Moon Bay. At least one-third of the Bay had been filled in since the mid-1800's before the practice was halted.
